Carolina Silva Portero
SENIOR RESEARCHER (August 2023 - May 2024)
I am a lawyer with a passion for thinking outside the legal box. My driving force is a deep commitment to equality through research and practice. I bring over a decade of experience advising NGOs, government bodies, and collaborating with international organizations.
From 2020 to 2022, I served as a consultant for the OHCHR on prison reform policies. Prior to that, I worked in Ecuador for the Ministry of Human Rights as the acting Director of the legal research department, and for the National Assembly as a legislative aide. Between 2012 and 2020 I completed my doctoral degree (SJD) at Harvard Law School where I developed a profound commitment to anchoring transformative change in rigorous research. At Harvard, I contributed to several interdisciplinary research initiatives as a member of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, and the Afro-Latin American Research Institute.
I am also a writer, currently working on a new fiction project, and a self-trained pastry chef always on the lookout for new baking adventures with my four-year old son.
